Pakistani wedding traditions

A wedding is a ceremony where two people are united in marriage. Besides being a formal way to mark the union of two people, weddings can be a lot of fun too..Wedding traditions and customs vary greatly between cultures, ethnic groups, religions, countries, and social classes. Most wedding ceremonies involve an exchange of marriage vows by a couple, presentation of a gift (offering, rings, symbolic item, flowers, money, dress), and a public proclamation of marriage by an authority figure or celebrant. Special wedding garments are often worn, and the ceremony is sometimes followed by a wedding reception. Music, poetry, prayers, or readings from religious texts or literature are also commonly incorporated into the ceremony, as well as superstitious customs.Marriage in Pakistani pertains to wedding traditions established and adhered by Pakistani men and women. Despite their local and regional variations, marriages in Pakistan generally follow Islamic marital jurisprudence. Culturally, marriages are not only seen as a union between a husband and a wife, but also an alliance between their respective families. These traditions extend to other countries around in the world where Overseas Pakistani communities exist.

Mayoon day

It is mayoon day or you can say that dholki day that is the first day of any of the Pakistani wedding, here at this day almost each and every girl wear yellow or orange shaded dresses! It is this yellow day, right starting from the dress to the decoration, from bangles to embellishments, it is all yellow! It is on this day that best pictures can be taken and best photography session takes place! In mayon, oil and turmeric are applied to the bride’s face and hands to make her look pale and bland; she is also made to wear yellow – all this designed to make her look especially attractive and glowing on the day of the mehndi (in some cases this transformation is reserved for the baraat). It used to be solely a girl’s event but in our enlightened new world it is gender-neutral now, although it’s difficult to visualise how oil can make most men blander than they otherwise are. The guests are served chicken.

Mehndi day

The mehndi takes place in the homes of the boy and the girl separately. The goal here is the opposite: to make the bride look especially stunning. This is achieved by henna and bright clothes. On his part, the boy shaves or trims his facial hair. There’s much music and dancing. In the end, everybody eats chicken. In recent times, mehndi functions see young men wearing dopattas, garments conspicuous for their absence when it comes to most young women. Here we have this mehndi day, do you know that which is the favorite day of the photographer In Karachi if it comes to cover any of the Pakistani wedding, it is this mehndi day!It is this most of all colorful function where all the girls and boys naturally look pretty and handsome and camera man also does not have to put that much effort in editing the pictures.

Barat day

If we talk about this barat day then it is one of the decent and elegant days, here you will mostly red colored dresses, girls wear sarees and boys are mostly be wearing three piece suits. It is the most exclusive day for both bride and groom and family people also make sure that best decorations and arrangements are put up by their sides! On baraat, the bride’s family is the host, and the groom’s friends and family arrive in a procession (baraat in Urdu). The main events of the baraat are nikaah (if it has not already taken place), some games by way of entertainment, exchange of gift-money (the salaami), the participants getting photographed, followed by everybody eating chicken. Finally, the groom takes his bride home, along with the procession.

Valima day

On the valima the participants give salaami, get their pictures taken, and – last but not the least – eat chicken. Like the baraat, there’s much hugging all around. Here is this last day of this Pakistani wedding, it is this most cozy kind of day where most of the people and especially girls like to wear light in shaded dresses, they like to wear saree and it can be simple shalwar kameez. It is this reception day for bride and groom so this event is a bit formal one!So, these are the range of functions at any of the Pakistani wedding! This event is hosted by the groom’s family. At the conclusion of the event, the girl goes back to her parents’, which means that the boy again needs to visit that house and escort her back.
